Music gives a soul to the universe…

The Palmetto Peaches Music Muses

The fantastic Monika from violetroots.com has started a new series on her blog called Music Muses. Each month she will interview a blogger or creative who loves and connects to music. And guess who she featured first? Yup, that’s right your Palmetto Peaches.  We’ve featured a few of our answers below, but please head over to Violetroots.com to read the full interviews.

What is your relationship to music? Do you play an instrument or are you just an avid listener?

Donni: I took piano lessons when I was younger and begged my mom to quit so I could take more dance classes. However, I can still hammer out “My Heart Will Go On” if I have just the correct amount of wine in me. Now music just keeps me sane.

Ace: I come from a singing family, and grew up singing in a gospel choir–but other than that, I’m just a fan. In my mind I can play the piano and saxophone though. :)

What song lyrics currently resonate the most with you? Why?

Donni: Kendrick Lamar – “Poetic Justice” — “If I told you that a flower bloomed in a dark room, would you trust it?”
The first time I heard that, it gave me Tupac “The Rose That Grew From Concrete” vibes and I’ve always identified with that image -something beautiful growing in the midst of chaos.

What are the last five songs you listened to? Feel free to include guilty pleasures! We’re all friends here!

Ace: Let me start by letting you know I love trap music.

  • “Where Ya At” – Future and Drake
  • “Church” – BJ the Chicago Kid (ft. Chance the Rapper)
  • “Down in the DMs” – Yo Gotti
  • “California” – Colonel Loud (ft. Young Dolph, T.I and Ricco Barrino)
  • “Sure Thing” – Miguel

What’s your go-to song if you’re feeling a bit down or in need of some motivation?

Ace: “Diva”, “Countdown”, “Get Me Bodied”, “Grown Woman”…pretty much anything Beyoncé!

Donni: If I’m in a bad mood or need a pick me up – I have a dance break (or drink a bottle of wine with Ace). So put on some Beyoncé or throwback 80s/90s dance jams (Whitney Houston – “Dance With Somebody” anyone?) and I’m good.
