DIY LUSH Tea Tree Water Toner

In my winter beauty faves vlog, I mentioned that I had gotten a sample of the LUSH Tea Tree Water Toner. I loved this toner, but even in my vlog I realized that this was something that I could probably make at home. So instead of spending $22.95 on this natural toner I decided to give making a DIY version of the LUSH Tea Tree Water a try. Spoiler alert: it was a success!

Materials

  • Bottle (I used an old NYX Matte Setting Spray bottle but these are some good options: 1,2,3)
  • Filtered Water
  • Tea Tree Oil

OPTIONAL

FYI – LUSH’s official list of ingredients for the Tea Tree Water Toner are: Tea Tree Water, Grapefruit Water, Juniperberry Water, Limonene, Perfume, and Methylparaben.

1. Fill your bottle with water. (For my little bottle I used ~1/3 cups of water.)
2. For every 25ml add 10 drops of tea tree oil and 5 drops of the essential oil. (So that was 20 drops of tea tree oil and 10 drops of lavender oil for me.)
3. Shake the toner well before each and every use.

Yesss that’s it. Super easy right? If you really want to get an even closer dupe you can order just order the other essential oils that are in LUSH’s Tea Tree Water Toner –  grapefruit and juniper berry.

Toner 101

Toners shrink pores, gives your skin pH balance, moisturizes, refreshes your skin and will remove any makeup (or sunscreen) residue left on your skin after cleansing. Tea tree oil toners are great for treating spots and even acne as it has antibacterial, antiseptic, and antimicrobal properties. I choose to add lavender as my essential oil because 1) I had some on-hand  2) I needed something to balance out the very strong scent of the tear tree oil 3) it smells amazing 4) it helps you relax and your body adapt to stress  and 5)helps regenerate skin cells.

  4. I bet this makes your face feel amazing! I wish I could use things like this but I can’t even use foundation. My face breaks out and it’s so super sensitive, it aggravates me so bad.

    1. My face feels so refreshed after using this. Hmm, tea tree isn’t great for sensitive skin, but the following oils maybe some you could look into:

chamomile – helps reduce redness and irritation
lavender – cooling and calming, helps reduce itchiness
neroli – often recommended to reduce redness and irritation and to help with broken capillaries
rose – great to soften dry and sensitive skin. May reduce redness and irritation

    1. Yes, I’ve seen so much progress with my skin after I started using tea tree products. I really love The Body Shop’s tea tree line, if you haven’t checked those out before they might be worth looking into. 🙂

  6. I wonder what grapefruit water does?? I love Lush but haven’t bought anything in years. I do love giving their soaps as gifts.

    1. Grapefruit can get rid of excessive oiliness, dryness, and blemishes. It also has anti-aging properties. I just started getting into LUSH products. I never quite understood the hype. Now I love just about everything I try, including their soaps.
