Dream Destinations

Dream Destinations - palmsinatl.com Let me start off by saying I wholeheartedly would drop everything (if I could) and pull an Eat Pray Love. Also, if we’re talking about the movie version I would welcome a tryst with James Franco…because James Franco. Of course extended stays in Italy, India and Indonesia are on my list of dream destinations, but I’ve got some other adventures I’d like to take.

One of the goals on my vision board was to travel more. While the year it isn’t yet over, some of my other goals are manifesting (and are expensive). So realistically, I may not be able to cross any of these particular destinations off my list right now.  That’s OK. These are called dream destinations and I plan to continue dreaming until I get to cross all of these places off of my list.

Dream Destinations

  • India – During college, I saw a performance of the traditional Kerala dance – kathakali. I added India on my list of dream destinations after that performance. After gazing at the the fantastic Taj Mahal, I would want to ride elephants, take in some Bollywood in Mumbai, and get lost for a few hours in a bazaar in New Delhi.

  • Jordan – I can taste the hummus, falafels and harissa now. I’d also like to follow Indiana Jones’ footsteps and visit the city of Petra / find the Holy Grail :). The architecture looks gorgeous. Floating in the Dead Sea is definitely on my bucket list and a trip to the River Jordan would be amazing.
  • Paris – I want to go to Paris as much as Emily from The Devil Wears Prada did. Of course I want to see the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame and use what I can remember from high school and college French class. But I really just want people watch at a cafe while I sip on coffee and nibble on a croissant and stroll down rue Saint-Honoré  and window shop* at Hermès and Chanel.
*Unless I’m ballin’ out of control – then I say bring on the shopping spree!
  • Peru – I’d like to take the four or five day hike on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Am I, by nature, a hiker (pun intended)? No, but this would be a once in a lifetime experience. Currently, the Peruvian Government only allows 500 permits per day to hike the trail in efforts to reduce human impact. I have a feeling that the trail is going to become more and more regulated as time goes on.

  •  Route 66 – You can thank the movie Cars, but I want to travel what’s left of Route 66. The original Route 66 that stretched from Illinois to California no longer exists, but there are portions that have been designated National Scenic Byways and some of the old hotels and stops along the route are on the National Register of Historic Places. Plus, Route 66 makes me think of Fear and Loathing. Don’t worry guys, I’ll leave my quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, and salt shaker full of drugs at home.
