We’re grateful to be able to share another Thanksgiving holiday with our readers! As usual, we’re still grateful for family, friends and wine. Last year, we made a list of people, dead or alive, who we wanted to invite to Thanksgiving dinner. This year, we’re keeping it more on the alive side.
First and foremost, we have to invite President Barack Obama and our slayful First Lady, Michelle Obama. It’s our last Thanksgiving with them, and we’re in our feelings about it.
Ace’s DINNER GUESTS
Solange. I’m gladly giving Solange a seat at the table. While I’m not opposed to Beyoncé being her +1, I just have to talk the woman behind one of my newest, favorite albums. We’re all “adults” here, so I’m going to admit to being jealous of Solange when growing up. She was the star I thought I would be, which is one reason why admire the hard work and soul she put into A Seat at the Table.
Sarah Paulson. Yes, there are American Horror Story questions for her to answer. However, I need to hear her cover Salt & Pepa’s “Shoop”.
Luvvie Ayaji. Her writing style, technology skills and philanthropy accomplishments are #RealLifeGoals. Confession: a few years ago I emailed Luvvie about being her assistant. We set up an interview and then life happened. I didn’t try too hard to chase the opportunity, and allowed personal issues to get in my way. Our paths will cross soon, but until then, I’ll continue to cackle at her commentary on current events and television shows.
Donni’s Dinner Guests
Along with the POTUS and FLOTUS, I really would love to share dinner with the Joe and Jill Biden. I’m unashamed about the following fact: I love Joe Biden. I’ve had a “Cup of Joe” mug with his face on it since 2008. Before everyone was going crazy over sexy young Joe Biden and sharing the Biden memes I’ve had a slightly unhealthy obsession with him and Dr. Jill. They are my favorites!
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – I don’t think they’ve been officially seen them together, but their relationship was confirmed earlier this month by when Prince Harry issued an official statement blasting all the social media trolls harassing his girlfriend with racist comments. Meghan is an actress on Suits, but is also an activist and lifestyle blogger. Markle was spotted going in and out of Harry’s place at the back of Kensington Palace wearing his baseball cap and carrying groceries from Whole Foods. You know just casually bringing in groceries into the palace. Love her. Here’s a excerpt from an essay she just penned:
“With fame comes opportunity, but it also includes responsibility — to advocate and share, to focus less on glass slippers and more on pushing through glass ceilings. And, if I’m lucky enough, to inspire”.
So I want to hear their story and any wedding plans already in the works. Move over Princess Kate! (although, I love her too.)
Ava Duvernay – I love this everything about this woman and if she wants to bring Oprah as a plus one – I’m completely okay with that. Ava killed it this year with Queen Sugar and her documentary 13th. She’s currently in production on Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” that has made her the first black woman to direct a movie with a budget of more than $100 million. Yass queen. I just want to sip a holiday cocktail with her and pick her brain.
Val Chmerkovskiy – Why do I want to share a meal with Val….
Plus, he’s basically a sweet teddy bear. I love him on Dancing With the Stars, but this season with Laurie – who is the most precious thing ever- has been awesome to watch.
Who would you invite to your holiday dinner?
