Fall 2018 TV Preview: 25 New (and Returning) Shows to Watch

Fall 2018 TV Preview: 25 New (and Returning) Shows to Watch - The Palmetto Peaches - palmsinatl.com

While I’m waiting for Eminem to end MGK’s career, I thought I’d put on my Roger Ebert hat and give you the scoop on some of the new and recurring fall TV shows. When the temperatures drop and I can no longer spend afternoons drinking margaritas on a patio I hibernate and watch TV. I previewed the 2016 shows,  2017 shows, and you know I couldn’t leave you hanging. Here’s your fall 2018 TV preview:

Fall 2018 TV Preview: Most Anticipated

Maniac – Netflix, September 21

I feel like the only way to describe this show is to have you watch the trailer. Also can we get some handclaps for Superbad co-stars Jonah Hill and Emma Stone reuniting.

This Is Us – NBC, September 25  (Season 3)

Our favorite family – The Pearsons are back!  Go ahead and get your tissues ready. If you have yet to cry buckets of tears (and considered boycotting Crock-Pot) over this show, go do it. It’s worth it.

The Walking Dead, AMC, October 7 (Season 9)

Why is this under the most anticipated when ratings have been dropping like crazy? This is the final season for Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick – the main character (who by the way is still alive in the comics).  If you, like me, are one of the poor unfortunate souls that still breath the world of Alexandria, let us band together this season. We’re going to have a lot of thoughts and feelings and need to stick together.

All American – The CW, October 10

Football and Taye Diggs, sign me up.

The Romanoffs – Amazon, October 12

So first you’ve got Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner– count me in.  Then Mad Men alums Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, and Jay R. Ferguson (Stan!), along with Andrew Rannells, Diane Lane, Corey Stoll. I’m clutching my pearls. The eight-part series is about a group of people who are convinced they’re descendants of the Russian royal family. Hello, Anastasia!

Charmed – The CW, October 14

Yup, another reboot. I loved the original Charmed, but am also excited to see a new generation led by three Latinx actresses: Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffery.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Netflix, October 26

This looks dark and I am here for it. I may need to watch the original so that I can sleep at night, but I’m committed.

Fall 2018 TV Preview: Oldies but Goodies (Returning)

The Resident, Fox, September 24 (Season 2)

Where Matt Czuchry goes, I will follow. Bonus points if you get my reference. Season 2 of this medical drama should be really good and the beautiful Jenna Dewan (Tatum) joins the cast.

The Good Doctor, ABC,  September 24 (Season 2)

Last year, I said I’d give it a chance despite it feeling very House-ish. I’m glad I did. This isn’t really an oldie yet, but I could see it sticking around for a few more seasons.

Lethal Weapon – Fox, September 25 (Season 3)

There was  some off-screen drama that led to some changes in this series: Seann William Scott (you know, Stifler) will now star opposite Damon Wayans. This may be the last season, so enjoy.

Empire, Fox – September 26 (Season 5)

Last season stressed me out, but I missed Cookie and her outfits.

Grey’s Anatomy, ABC, September 27 (SEASON 15)

My list wouldn’t be a list without Shonda Rhimes’ drama-filled series which will start it’s 15th season. Shondaland is a bank of secrets, but I hear Meredith will find love. BRB – still mourning Derek Shepherd.

  • How to Get Away With Murder, ABC (Season 5)
  • Black Lightning, CW, October 9 (Season 2)
  • Riverdale, – CW, October 10 (Season 3)
  • Black-ish, ABC, October 16 (Season 5)

Last season got a little heavy, but I’m glad the Johnsons will be back on my screen.

  • Splitting Up Together, ABC, October 16 (Season 2)

FALL 2018 TV PREVIEW: HIT or MISS? (Premiering)

Atypical – Netflix, September 7 (Season 2)

Atypical is about a high schooler on the autism spectrum (played by Keir Gilchrist).  The show is features a unique lead character, sharp humor and the parents are played by Jennifer Jason Leigh and Michael Rappaport. Season 1 was great and I’m looking forward to bingeing the  longer second season.

You – Lifetime, September 9

The Gossip Girl himself, Penn Badgley, stars in this drama about a bookstore manager who develops a twisted infatuation (also called STALKING) with an aspiring writer.

Magnum P.I. – CBS, September 24

I don’t really like reboots and who can really replace Tom Selleck and that glorious mustache. No one. Well…maybe Jay Hernandez who will play the iconic investigator in this reboot.  It’s worth at least giving him a chance.

A Million Little Things ABC, September 26

The official teaser says: A group of best friends who first met while trapped in a Boston elevator haven’t done the best job of keeping up with one another’s trials and triumphs—until they’re faced with the suicide of the most decent member of the clan. I feel like I’m going to cry.

Murphy Brown – CBS,  September 27

Raise your hand if your grandma used to make you watch this with her. After 20 years off air, Candice Bergen returns as Murphy Brown in a 13-episode revival. I’ve lost count of all the reboots on my list.

The Neighborhood – CBS,  October 1

Praise be!! Schmidt is back on our screens.  Schmidt and his family move into the an all-black neighborhood right next to Calvin Butler (Cedric the Entertainer). It’s giving me Bernie Mac and Ashton Kutcher, Guess Who, vibes. 100% here for it.

Happy Together – CBS, October 1

I love Damon Wayans Jr. and Amber Stevens West. So I’m rooting for this one. They play a couple who end up living with  a tabloid-famous pop star that is trying to stay out of the limelight.

The Kids Are Alright ABC, October 16

At first I thought this was an adaptation from the movie. I’m wrong. This series is set in the 70’s  and follows a working-class family, made up of eight sons.  The show also brings one of my Walking Dead faves, Michael Cudlitz, back to the screen,  so I’ll give it a chance.

What shows are you looking forward to this fall?
