Friday Faves: Fall is Here

We’re starting to officially make the transition from summer to fall. So we’ve gathered up some of things (and people) we’re adding to our faves list as with the season change.

Friday Faves: Fall is Here

Faves Sweet Treat

Ace: Apple Pie Vodka from Voodoo Tiki Bar (aka my job). All you need is ice cubes and a little whipped cream–your taste buds will thank me later. I can’t wait until the weather gets a few degrees colder, so I can add a little heat to that vodka, and sip on it.

Donni: Well now I want that apple pie vodka Ace is talking about. I’m going basic:  Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes.

Fave Vlogger/Blogger

Ace: I haven’t discovered any new faves just yet, but I’m still riding with Sheriden Chanel and Kiah McBride from Donni and I met them at Melanin and Mimosas a few years ago, and now they’re doing big things with another one of my favorites: Necole Kane.

Donni:  I recently stumbled on DaNi B. Jade’s YouTube channel and love her DIY tutorials. Also, I’m loving Chelsea Williams, from That’s Chelsea. She’s a 4c naturalista (like me) that blogs about all things health and wellness including green beauty and her plant-based lifestyle.

Favorite TV Moment

Donni: Blackish isn’t just a TV show. It’s a socially conscious experience. I love how the show tackles “uncomfortable” topics that people would prefer not to talk about. It’s not that they tackle it, but they still get you to laugh while doing so. Wednesday’s premiere episode: Juneteenth –  celebrated on June 19, which marks the day in 1865 that the last slaves were freed in the United States – provided a powerful history lesson on an overlooked holiday.

Ace: I know there’s a lot new fall TV shows out, but I just finished Freeform’s The Bold Type and it stole my heart. The show follows 3 best friends, in NYC, working for a women-based magazine. I like to think that Kat (a fierce social media director with slight emotional issues) is what I would’ve been like if I took on a big city after college. I was slightly embarrassed while crying at the end of the first episode. The magazine’s HBIC gave a speech about feminism, sisterhood and taking chances–and it hit me straight in the feels.

Friday Faves: Women’s History Month Edition

Women’s History Month is coming to an end, so I’m sending this glorious month off by showing love to my favorite women-related moments of the week. Women are naturally a big deal, but a celebration of sisterhood is good for the soul.

Favorite quote

“It’s not whether or not we feel afraid that matters, but what we do because –or even in spite of–it. What matters is if we can still choose our hearts even when our minds give us every reason not to. There is a lot at stake; there is so much on the horizon, and at times it can be blinding. But, you and I…we are here in this moment for a reason.” – Kate Rose, on the magical beginnings of the recent New Moon in Aries.

Favorite Women Empowerment Moment

March 27th, 2017 marked the first ever #MuslimWomensDay. With all the political chaos going on today, it gave me all the feels to see Muslim women celebrated.

Favorite Author:

I’m currently reading Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Next on my list from Adichie are Americanah and We Should All Be Feminists.

Favorite Girl Gang

University of South Carolina Women’s Basketball team for making it to the #FinalFour. They’ll be joining our Men’s Basketball team, making USC the only school in the country to have both teams in the Final Four!

Ace: There were plenty of emotional moments during President Obama’s farewell speech, but when he gave a shoutout to his bae, “Michelle LaVaughn Robinson”, I lost it. Not to knock any of his achievements, but to see them in love, while leading our country, and looking sharp while doing so, are #RealLifeGoals. I’m so grateful that I spent the last 8 years with such an amazing President and First Lady. P.S. You can grab my shirt here.

Donni: Hmm, Can I pick one for each year President Obama was in office? Please note: I cried some real tears making that sentence past tense.  Actually, I don’t think I’m ready to let them go as the first family so here’s a placeholder:Friday Favorites: New Year, New Faves - The Palmetto Peaches -

Fave Mantra/inspiration

Donni:  This year I began writing daily affirmations in my journal and while I’m only 20 days in I already feel like I’m in a more positive space.

#Affirmations – Day 1 of 365.

“The magic begins in you. Feel your own energy, and realize that similar energy exists within the earth, stones, plants, water, wind, fire, colors and animals.” – S. Cunningham

This quote came with the crystals and sage wands I ordered from The Hoodwitch. The raw rose quartz is for self-love, and the chunky pyrite is for focus and confidence. I can use a little more of all 3 in 2017.

Fave 2017 Release

Ace: Moonlight (Rereleased after the Golden Globes) Moonlight blessed my soul with the best of both worlds: the hood and the arts.

Donni: I’m going to have to go with Ed Sheeran’s new music: Shape of You and Castle on the Hill. Let me set the stage: December 2015, Ed decides he’s going to take a break from music so he could do an Eat Pray Love or “travel the world and see everything [he] missed.” Then a year later, he just up and changes his Twitter profile background to a pretty shade of blue. C’mon Ed, drop a single. And it’s nothing but silence until the New Year when he finally tells us new music is coming. He’s been on a media tour since the release of the new singles and he gave us this little gem:

Bless your sweet,Ginger soul, Ed!!!

Favorite Netflix Show/Movie

Donni: Chewing Gum. My friend Lindsey suggested that I watch it and I instantly loved it. It’s certainly not for everyone, but I found  it hilarious. The second season is airing in the UK and I’m trying to figure out how I can watch it now.

Ace: Blue Jay. I’ve already confessed my love for Sarah Paulson to y’all, but that’s not why Blue Jay made the list. It’s one of the movies that made me laugh and smile for the entire time, until the last 5 minutes. Also on my list? Crazyhead. Usually, I don’t willingly watch shows about zombies, but this writing for this one wheeled me in. Friday Favorites: New Year, New Faves -- The Palmetto Peaches -

Friday Faves – Spring Love & Lust List

Welcome to the end of the week, everyone! I hope you all have some exciting plans for the weekend or maybe you’ve carved out some self care time. I’m not sure what’s been happening with the weather in your corner of this Earth, but in Atlanta we’re expecting some serious April showers. Because of that, I don’t think I’ll be scratching a whole lot of  I’m going to spend some time with my friends, get a little shopping in, and try to get a jump ahead on May blog posts. But before I get started, here are five things that I love or am lusting after right now…

Spring Love & Lust List

Fave Spring Sip

If you don’t know I’m a huge fangirl of Lisamarie (Paper + Glam) and her love of seasonal living. On her April Life List, one of the items was to sip Coconut Lavender Lemonade. I’ve tried to like coconut water, but I can’t. It tastes like Bonnaroo 2010, but that’s a story for another day. I went with Lavender Lemonade. Check out this recipe from Eat Yourself Skinny.

Fave Spring Scent

I have a habit of buying candles even when I don’t need them. When the 3-wick Bath and Body Works Candles go on sale I go crazy. P.S. they are $12.50 right now. You can also head over to Michael’s and grab 3 for $10. Anyways the scents I’m lusting after are: Bow Ties & Bourbon, Lemon Mint & Tea, and Hello Beautiful. I’ve purchased Bow Ties & Bourbon before and loved it. Although, according to my visitors it just smelled like a Kentucky gentleman had been in my house.

Fave Spring Read

I don’t know if you’ve peeped my Instagram lately, but you may have seen To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The book is about a girl in high school who writes letters to the major loves of her life with the intention of the boys never seeing her letters. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, the letters are mailed out. It’s a cute quick read and it made me want to be in high school again. Although, my high school love life was nothing like the main characters. I finished it in two days and immediately ran to the library for the sequel: P.S. I Still Love You.

Fave Find

I’m at the beginning stages of purchasing my first home. This is going to be a slow process, but I want to get this right. I’ve enrolled in a home buyer education class and am working on getting my finances in order. In the meantime, I’ve loved looking at houses with different style and home decor.  I stumbled across this list of style quizzes: and my favorite was HomeGoods’ Stylescope quiz. Apparently I’m urban funk with a touch of farmhouse glam.

Friday Faves: Spring Love & Lust List - The Palmetto Peaches

Urban Funk has undeniable funk and soul. She’s at home in a place where industrial meets comfort, where over-the-top meets laid-back chill, and where retro art meets graphic simplicity. And she does all this in a way that feels totally effortless. Farmhouse Glam is the delicate, exquisite balance between beautiful femininity and rustic nonchalance. She’s all about the discovery of unexpected sparkle amidst the less polished. She wears high heels and a denim jacket, a string of pearls and bare feet. And her home feels as special as it does comfortable.

Yup I buy all of that.

Fave Tunes

Lemonade. Lemonade. Lemonade. Obviously, I’m loving Queen Bey’s new music and am super jealous Ace is headed off to Tampa to experience this tour. Besides Beyoncé, I can’t get enough of Mike Posner’s I Took a Pill in Ibiza, Drake’s One Dance and I’ve had Prince’s entire catalogue on repeat.

Friday Faves: Holiday Edition

The holidays are quickly approaching so grab your holiday gift list, crank up the Christmas jams, turn on a classic or cheesy holiday movie and soak in the holiday spirit. We’re sharing some of our holiday faves with you and hope you find something you may want to try.

Friday Faves: Holiday Edition

Fave Movie

Ace:The Polar Express has been a tradition in my life since I was 11 years old! My super sweet creative writing teacher read it to us every year before we left for winter break. It never failed for her to cry at the end. She even gave us a bell with a little note that said, “I believe in you.” (Are you crying yet? Because I am.)

I started my own tradition with my nephews a few years ago, where we read the book together on Christmas Eve. So it’s no surprise that I’ve watched The Polar Express three times this week, and probably will one more time this weekend.

Donni: I don’t think I have one favorite holiday movie, but every year I must watch Home Alone, all of the fantastic claymation classics, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. If you read my holiday movies list, you know I’ve just discovered Love Actually. This movie is definitely going on my annual to-watch list.

Fave Flavor

Ace: This week is all about the peppermint mocha and vanilla caramel creamers my big sister got for me. I used a caramel apple biscotti to stir my coffee (made using the vanilla caramel creamer) and it was ah-may-zing!

Donni: I’m in the process of slowly transitioning from my fall flavors and scents over to my winter choices. This weekend I’m on the hunt for some of these fantastic Paramount Coffee flavors. How cute is this packaging? I think it would make a great addition to holiday gift baskets.

Friday Faves: Holiday Edition - The Palmetto Peaches

I’m also huge on red velvet during the holidays. So if anyone has any cool recipes, please feel free to send them my way.

FAVE Beverage

Ace: Although I haven’t tried it yet, I’m drooling over Alanna & Company’s Spiked Cider, and hoping to make it on Christmas Day. Call me simple, but Bourbon and Fireball are an easy way to my heart. Here’s the link to the recipe:

Friday Faves: Holiday Edition - The Palmetto Peaches

Donni: My mouth is watering over Ace’s choice. You can’t go wrong with cider. However, this time of year I’m hot chocolate everything! Spiked or non-alcoholic, I don’t care. The cocoa goodness makes me happy. If you’re looking for some more holiday beverage ideas check out here and here.

Fave Accessory

Ace: To be honest, I haven’t bought any super cute fall or winter clothes/accessories yet. I’m still rocking my University of South Carolina sweatshirts. I’m in Charleston right now where it’s 40 degrees when you wake up, and 75 at lunch. I’d love to get my hands on a new beanie and/or this bear sleeping bag.

Donni: Can sparkle be an accessory? The answer is yes. For the holidays, I love sequined anything. Check out this Pinterest board with sparkly holiday outfit inspiration.

Friday Faves

Happy Friday, y’all! We hope your week has been fantastic or you at least have some great plans for the weekend! Mockingjay Part 2 anyone? Today we’re sharing some of the things we’re currently loving in our first installment of Friday faves.

Friday Faves - The Palmetto Peaches

Fave Tunes

If y’all didn’t know, I love trap music. Don’t let the specs and locs fool you. I’ve been jammin’ to VT’s “I Might Be” all week. (Like most trap music, this song is not kid or grandparents friendly.) Patiently waiting for the day to put “She don’t even wear Jordans. She don’t like Michael Kors” as an Instagram caption. It’s my #Dab song. A lot of people are calling the Dab the “Cam Newton dance”, but um…as much as I love seeing him do it–he didn’t create it sooo.

Fave Fall Flavor

Everything pumpkin flavored went on sale after Halloween, so I’m still getting rid of this Pumpkin Spice Pie creamer. But let me tell y’all about these blessings by Creative Snacks Co.:  Pumpkin Pecan Granola and Yogurt Pumpkin Pretzels. I shamelessly ate a bag of each, which is why I don’t have any pictures to share with you. Sorry, not sorry.

Fave Netflix Binge

Over the summer I randomly watched an episode of The Blacklist. I did a lot of eye squinting, so I had to know what happened in the previous season. For some reason, Red Reddington really annoys me, but I can’t stop watching. I have to know what caused his obsession Elizabeth Keen. On top of that, I have one more episode of Master of None I’m saving for a day where I really need a good laugh. What I thought was just a trending topic on Instagram and Twitter, turned out to be a few hours of me laughing out loud. Hopefully I’ll finish the season before getting sucked back into season 4 of Grey’s Anatomy. Be still my heart.

Fave Tunes

Adele’s album just officially came out today and it’s not available for streaming (get that money Adele), so it’s not on my faves quite yet. So you know what album is on my faves – please don’t judge – Justin Bieber’s Purpose. He released 11 dance videos for all the songs on the album: Purpose: the Movement. Let’s be clear it’s not Drake in “Hotline Bling,”  or let’s say Queen Bey when she dropped her visual album but I kind of love it.

Friday Faves - The Palmetto Peaches

The Ed Sheeran collab “Love Yourself” is really good. “Trust” is a low-key banger. Then to top it all off Nas is featured on the deluxe version of the album on “We Are“. I was listening to the album on Spotify for the first time and was jamming along and literally had to pause and double-check that my ears were not deceiving me. Yup, that’s Nas. JB coming to Atlanta in April and I’m really tempted to buy tickets. Can a 26 year old without a teen sister go to a Justin Bieber concert?

Fave Fall Flavor

I love my red cup of Starbucks just as much as the next 20-something, but my friend put me on to this Salted Caramel Black Tea which you can get from Walmart for under $3. Makes me rethink how much I’m spending at Starbucks.

Fave Netflix Binge

Last weekend while Rhonda Rousey was getting the surprise of her life, I was discovering Aziz Ansari’s Master of None. Tom Haverford may not make my list of fictional crushes, but he is one of my favorite fictional characters.

Friday Faves - The Palmetto Peaches

And now Dev from Master of None is my new favorite character. I knew I was going to love this show when the opening scene has Ansari’s character Dev googling if you can get pregnant by “those little guys who like to come out before the big party” while trying to decide if he should go buy Plan B. Also I love that Aziz’s real life parents play Dev’s parents. The show is hilarious and if you’re looking for your next Netflix binge I would definitely recommend you add this to the list.
