Some of the greatest love stories are captured in the pages of great novels – others are captured on screen. We’re discussing some of our favorite TV couples in no particular order.
Meredith and Derek (Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey)
Ace: It took some strength to even bring myself to write this, because I’m not over him leaving this Earth. But I can’t tell you if my feelings would’ve been any different if he cheated. I loved Meredith and the way she loved. Her unconventional life gave her a first class ticket on the Hot Mess Express, and I was here for it. That “Pick me. Choose Me. Love Me” line she pulled on Derek laid me completely out. Pretty sure it was my MySpace headline for a few months.
Donni: Rest in Peace McDreamy. MerDer went through it all. Who can forget the Pick me, choose me, love me speech? Their Post-It marriage. The candle house. Or how about when they adopted Zola? I would say #relationshipgoals, but they’ve been close to death one too many times for my liking. MerDer’s relationship taught us about being vulnerable, working through rough times, and that there no such thing as a perfect relationship, but you can get pretty dang close. I want them to be a real couple so they could have had the lifetime together they deserved – instead of the tragic, tear-inducing ending that Queen Shonda delivered.
Luke and Lorelai (Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson)
Donni: Seven years of lightning fast banter and a million cups of coffee. Seven years I waited for a Luke and Lorelai wedding only to be disappointed. In real life Lorelai would have NEVER ruined everything by sleeping with Christopher. C’mon the guy makes you a Santa burger, builds you a chuppah, makes an ice skating rink in your front yard, obviously loves your daughter and you don’t marry him. Bye Felecia!!
Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne (Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison)
Ace: Opposites attract! These 2 are one of the first #BlackLove relationship goals for us 80’s babies. If you watched the first 2 seasons of A Different World, Dwayne and Whitley are the last couple you’d imagine rooting for by the end of the series. How can you not love someone named Dwayne Cleophus Wayne? He is proof that us unique-named folks have to work extra hard in life! After all, he maybe the only person who can take down Papa Pope (who played Whitley’s almost husband: Byron Counts).
Donni: I would argue that Whitley and Dwayne have one of the greatest love stories on TV – a classic, opposite attracts package. I loved watching them and hello Whitley left Byron (aka Daddy Pope) at the alter.
Pacey and Joey (Joshua Jackson and Katie Holmes)
Donni: This one is a little personal to me. I hated Dawson and I loved Pacey/Joshua Jackson with all the love my little 14 year old heart could hold. All I ever wanted was Pacey and Joey to end up together and for once the powers that be answered my pleas. I mean after all Pacey taught Joey how to drive, bought her a wall for her art, remembers everything, took Joey on a summer long sailing trip on a boat he built called True Love and the the simple act of being in love with her was enough for him. Besides the aforementioned sailing trip made Dawson react like this:
Bette and Tina (Jennifer Beals and Laurel Holloman)
Ace: About 3 years ago, I binge watched 6 seasons of The L Word on Netflix, and I’m currently going back for more. Basically I’m going back to watch my favorite Bette and Tina episodes. Like everyone else, their relationship wasn’t perfect. My heart broke a few times like when Bette cheated or when Tina didn’t want her to adopt their insanely beautiful daughter–but I survived. I think my obsession for BeTina (clearly I just made that up) is how free and open they were with their sexuality. They were educated, wealthy and didn’t feel the need to duck and dodge when it came to being affectionate or raising their child. Maybe it’s because they lived in LA, but they’re definitely an inspiration to the gay and lesbian community.
Synclaire and Overton (Kim Coles and John Henton)
Ace: Although I watched Living Single as a child, this is another binge watching confession. After spending a few cable-less days with season 1 on DVD, I fell in love with Synclaire and Overton. Most of my favorite TV couples are total opposites, except these two. Not the brightest crayons in the box, but they were ride-or-dies, and that’s what made them extra cute.
Cory and Topanga (Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel)
Ace: Cory and Topanga got a spin-off and TV kids who actually resemble them 14 years later–they’re the real MVPs. If you don’t remember waiting for TGIF to see what was next in their relationship, you’re too young for us bro.
Donni: Let’s be clear. I was and will always be a fan of Shawn and Angela. However, Cory and Topanga are still holding strong on a spin-off. If that’s not #relationshipgoals – I don’t know what is.
Dre and Rainbow (Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross)
Ace: Can’t decide if it’s their love for each other or their love for their kids that I love more. #ParentingGoals I think Dre and Rainbow are one of the only current TV couples on our list…ya know since Derek Sheppard is DEAD.
Donni: Dre and Rainbow are so funny. The Valentine’s Day War episode completely won me over. In a way they remind me of Ricky and Lucy – no matter what the antic is (or who is trying to pull it off) at the end it doesn’t matter because they love each other and their kids.
Nathan and Haley (James Lafferty and Bethany Joy Lenz)
Donni: Always and Forever. I will question anyone’s One Tree Hill fandom if they don’t think Nathan and Haley are one of the greatest TV couples of all time. I want them to get married in real life and have little James Lucas Scott’s and vlog their life. Now if you aren’t a One Tree Hill fan I believe it would behoove you to binge it on Netflix. I dare you to try to watch that series without falling in love with Nathan and Haley. Don’t have time to watch 9 seasons, try searching Naley on YouTube and prepare for your heart to explode. And I’ll leave you with a bonus .gif because I couldn’t choose.
Honorable Mention Couples
Donni: Buffy and Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Max and Liz (Roswell) and Rachel and Finn (Glee)
Ace: Callie and Arizona (Grey’s Anatomy and yes I’m still hoping for their comeback), Laura and Steve, not Stefon (Family Matters) and Marge and Homer (The Simpsons)
Oh my goodness, some fun flashbacks! I didn’t think anyone remembered Whitley and Dwayne Wayne! I actually haven’t watched most of those shows, but I am familiar with a number of those couples. Good picks 🙂 That Dawson gif…oh my. 😀

Awe. I loved Luke and Lorelei. I also always loved Pacey over Dawson. Remember Angela and Jordan Catalano?! Darn them for cancelling My So Called Life after only one season.

Corey and Topanga would have to be my faves from your list. It was some fun reminiscing!
The only TV show couple I’ve heard of on this list was Boy Meets World!
Yesss these are so good! Especially Corey and Topanga.
