Indiegogo might sound like a cool girl band, but it’s not. It’s a resource for crowdfunding/online fundraising. My recent posts mention a project I’m working on that will allow me to travel. Right now I’m living in Austin, Texas with 3 women and 2 furry friends who I’m allergic to. Allergic to the furry friends, not the women. Put us together, and we’re Connections Media. This multimedia project has 4 parts: a film series, music series, book and mentor program.
Through this project, we hope to bridge the gaps dividing society by showcasing the emotions, stories, and drives that we can all relate to. We talk people of all ages, races, genders, financial situations, etc., and we believe that while everyone has a perspective that makes them unique, we also have ties that bind us together across communities.
Our 4 pillars are words have meaning, actions have intent, people have purpose and communities have value. Words have been a big part of my life since I was a little girl. Writing is how I expressed myself then, and it still is now. So being able to teach kids the importance of their words, how to listen to others and the value of giving back to their communities, is a dream come true to me. I got a practice round at my summer camp over the last two years. This Indiegogo campaign will allow me to share this experience with kids in Austin, and again in Charleston in the spring.
So here we are, casually trying to raise $6,000 to wrap-up our projects in Charleston and kick things off in Austin. With the help of our friends, family and community– we will get it done!
